Color Guard Prayer
Dear Lord, as we prepare to take this field
Watch over us. Please guide my flags or any
Equipment I may
have tonight.
Allow our flags to reach the gates of heaven
And our bodies to flow as one.
Please allow them to land safely in
our hands.
Watch over our band, dear Lord, whether it be
Physical or musical even mentally, let them do
The best they can and leave it
all on the field
Just as we will.
Last but not least, please hold the rain and
Wind and whatever weather that may come,
In the
palm of your hands so that we will be
Able to perform to the best of our abilities.
It may not be perfect, but it will be the best
We
can do until next time.
Amen.
The Drum Major’s Prayer
Our Drum Major
Who art on the podium,
[insert name here] be thy name
Thy marching band come
Thy commands
be done
In competition as it is in practice.
Give us this rehearsal our daily water
And forgive us our missteps
As we forgive those who
have stepped
Out of place.
Lead us not into disaster
But deliver us from last place
For thine is the whistle, the gloves, and
The plume
forever.
Band Hut
A Toast
By Louise Morse, 1931
When I write of a football game,
I give the team their due;
But there are other loyal hearts,
That
should be mentioned, too.
They are the heroes who, unsung,
Yet sing for all to hear,
On horn and drum and clarionette,
And thrill us all
to cheer.
When they step out upon the field,
We all stand up and shout;
They are the first in every game
To bear our colors out.
It is
not only those who score
That win the games we see;
But every member of our band
Helps win the victory.
A game’s not won by brawn alone;
There
must be courage too
And inspiration must be there
To help the players through.
So here’s a toast to every man,
Come! Everybody stand
And
give a cheer for victories won,
Inspired by our band.
