A Prayer Inspired by Rugby
grant us determination as we ruck, maul
and scrimmage our way through life,
and teach us the value of supporting one another.
Enable us to have courage to stand our ground,
and to be firm to tackle any problems we face.
Give us vision to exploit
the opportunities which open up for us,
and the wisdom not to be offside too often.
When our goal is in sight, may our aim be straight and true.
Most of all, O Lord, we ask you to help us to try,
and bring us to the conversion of our lives,
union with Jesus Christ.
Chaplain Kim Taplin
Our ball which art oval,
Gilbert be thy name.
Thy will be kicked,
Thy will be passed,
On this pitch, as it is at Twickenham.
Give us this day many tries,
And forgive us our fouls,
As we forgive the ref who notices them.
Lead us not into touch,
But deliver us from penalties,
For thine is the tryline, the goal kick,
and the glory,
Ruck over and over,
